Held in Abu Dhabi, the program combines hands-on training with expert-led instruction, focusing on mobile journalism and effective storytelling techniques.

About the Program
The CNN Academy aims to empower journalists and content creators from the Global South by providing world-class training and access to industry resources. Participants will learn how to craft meaningful stories with context and depth, covering issues such as vaccine equity, humanitarian crises, and the experiences of frontline workers.
The program is structured in two phases:
Program Structure
Phase One: Virtual Training (July – October 1, 2025)
This phase takes place online through the CNN Academy Hub. Participants will participate in various courses that strengthen their storytelling abilities and broaden their understanding of global issues, especially those affecting the Global South.
Phase Two: In-Person Training and Simulation (November 2025, Abu Dhabi)
Selected participants will travel to Abu Dhabi for hands-on training led by CNN Academy’s expert trainers. The program culminates in the CNN Academy Simulation, an immersive experience centered around global health reporting. This exercise provides a real-world newsroom environment where participants apply their skills to produce impactful stories.
Who Can Apply
To be eligible for the CNN Academy Training Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Live and work in a developing country in the Global South (Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean)
- Be an early-career journalist, storyteller, or content creator
- Have a portfolio showcasing relevant work
- Be fluent in spoken and written English
- Commit to full participation in both the virtual and in-person components
- Be willing and able to travel to Abu Dhabi in November 2025

Phase One Application:
Submit a short application form confirming your eligibility, along with background information and why you’re a good fit for the program. If accepted, you’ll gain access to the virtual courses. -
Phase Two Application (by invitation):
If you successfully complete the virtual training, you may be invited to apply for the in-person training. You’ll need to submit:-

Final Project and Story Submission
After completing the simulation in Abu Dhabi, participants will return home to produce a final story using the skills they’ve gained during the program. These stories must be submitted by January 31, 2026. Selected stories may be featured on CNN’s digital and broadcast platforms.
